“Madison in New York” follows
the adventures of a young girl named Madison and her Yorkshire
Terrier, New Yorkey,
around New York City. Among the many tourist destinations the duo
visits are the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and
the Brooklyn Bridge.
“This a wonderful book that the whole family can enjoy,” Mrs.
Pataki said. “Madison and New Yorkey are so adorable they
can’t help but win your heart. I think they and their friends
make wonderful ambassadors for New York.”
The precocious Madison believes that nothing
can be too sparkly as she dresses her new puppy in fantastic
outfits that match her
own. Madison and New Yorkey visit museums, go shopping and see
shows, enjoying the great diversity of the City. Along the way
they run into old friends like Dr. Ramon, Professor O’Shea,
Monique, Mrs. Gold and Mr. Chu, while making new friends like Fred
the frog.
“Many little girls dream of growing up and living in glamorous,
fast-paced New York,” co-author, Wilson Kimball said. “’Madison
in New York’ clearly illustrates that New York can be just
as fun for children as it can be for adults.”
“Madison’s delight with life brought back to me the
excitement I felt every time I came to visit NYC as a child. This
book will no doubt bring out the child in all who read it," said
Betsy Day, illustrator of “Madison in New York” and
author and illustrator of “Stefan and Olga”.
"’Madison in New York’ celebrates the energy
and fun of New York City for children who live in New York and
it’s a great way to introduce tourist children to the City
and to remind them of their trip long after they gone home,” said
Jean Marzollo, author of "I Spy," "Shanna's Hip
Hop Hooray," and "Jonah and the Whale (and the Worm)."
“I can see Madison and New Yorkey being the New York icons
for chic young girls,” Linda Langton of Langton’s International
Agency, New York said. “Which young girl wouldn’t want
their own version of Madison’s sparkly sunglasses, a Madison
doll to dress in outrageous outfits, a Madison and New Yorkey t-shirt
or New Yorkey clothing for their puppy?
"We are thrilled to publish Libby Pataki's terrific book," said
Peter Barnes, owner of VSP Books, a publisher that specializes
in illustrated books for children about special and historic places. "We
believe she and Wilson have captured a child's joy of living in
New York."
