Woof!
My name is New Yorkey.
I’m a Yorkshire terrier puppy.
I wear a lot of cool clothes that I get from Madison. People think
she is barking mad because of the crazy outfits she puts on me
but I am the dog in the relationship. So I’m the one who
gets to bark. Living in New York City is great. There
are a lot of dog runs for me to exercise in and meet friends.
Central Bark is one of
my favorite places. There is a lot to see like the statute of my
hero Balto. Madison likes Belvedere Castle in Central Bark because
she’s a princess and every princess needs a castle.
We walk to Central Bark but when we go
other places in the city we take taxis and subways. I like taxis
better than subways because
I can hang out the window while the wind blows back my ears. I
can’t really do that in the subway because it doesn’t
go fast enough. New York City taxis go really fast.
My favorite number is four because I have
four legs. That’s
twice as many as Madison. I know that because I’m very good
at math. That’s the advantage of having four paws; you have
a lot more fingers and toes to count on.
I’m also very good at painting. The first time I went to
an art museum I fell in love with the paintings on the wall. I
like the idea that I can create something. Madison is very creative
too. She designs all of our clothes. I’m more of painter.
I like to walk through paint and then dance on a white canvas.
Some people think that being a painter is ruff but I think art
is a great way to express myself.
I’m short so I see a lot of things that are close to the
ground. I don’t like people who litter because I see it up
close. Throwing your gum on the street is really bad too. Sometimes
my paws get stuck in it. The good part about being so close to
the ground is looking at shoes. I learned that shoes not only taste
good they can also look good. Madison has great shoes. She has
a whole collection of sneakers, shoes, boots and flip-flops. Now
I do too.
I have a lot of clothes. I have sweaters,
jackets, hats, bows, collars and tutus. Madison bought me a mirror
that’s very
close to the ground so I can see what I look like in my clothes
before I go out. I like to look my best because New York is a see
and be seen City. You never know what celebrities you may run into
like Lassie, Benji or Blues Clues.
My favorite time of the year is the summer
because Madison is out of school and we spend a lot of time together.
I don’t
like the cold too much and it’s hard to walk on the sidewalks
when the snow banks are taller than me. The fall is nice too because
it’s fun to play in the falling leaves but the spring is
a little wet for me. I don’t like water. It makes my fur
stick together and I end up looking like a drowned rat. No one
in New York City likes rats.
Madison bought Fred to play in the tub
with her because I wouldn’t
do it. The bubbles make me sneeze. Fred is a good friend. Sometimes
he sits on my head so he doesn’t get lost. He’s even
smaller than me. Madison says Fred is a prince but I think he may
just be a frog. I’ve never heard Prince William gribbitt.
Fred and I play hide-and-seek when Madison
is in school. He hops all over the house until I find him. He
always finds me because
my tail wags a lot. I try not to wag it but I can’t help
it. Sometimes it seems to have a life all its own. Well it’s
time for a good brushing so I have to go. Are you coming to New
York soon? Make sure you write and let us know so we can meet you
in Central Bark. Arf, Arf, Arf! NEW YORKEY
